Drink Pink: Summer Rose´ picks for 2019

Summer is officially here and while we don’t need summer to drink rose, a summer without it, is unthinkable. Here is a round-up of our current favorites.

Mathiasson Rose

BLEND, MATTHIASON, NAPA 2018
Lean, esoteric style of winemaking that's changing the perception of California wines. Low alcohol, means you can drink a bottle (Or 2) and still feel good the next day.

KUDOS
SF Chronicle's Winemaker of the Year

TASTING
Barely pink in color, gauzy aromas of grapefruit and white peach waft from the glass. On the palate, it is light-bodied and graceful with delicate acidity.

FOOD
Light salads, fava beans, poached salmon, charcuterie, rabbit

Valerie Tissot Rose

POULSARD, VALERIE TISSOT, ARBOIS  2017
Called ‘Clown’, this wine is both fun and complex. Not your typical porch pounder. The complexity of this wine made from thin skinned Poulsard and slightly aged, is something to be discussed over a bottle. A great bottle to bring to a party with wine savvy guests. Or to drink alone, in the sun, with a book as the ultimate Self Care.

WINEMAKERS
Third generation winemakers- Sister and brother, Valérie & Jean-Christophe Tissot run this estate- but their retired parents Françoise and Jean-Louis lend them a willing hand.

TASTING
Delicate yet flavorful, this Pinot Gris has a light golden color and a complex, fruit-scented nose that reveals layers of mango, jasmine tea, cinnamon, and cantaloupe. Smooth, smokey toasted walnut and honey balance the fruits, and give way to a crisp, lingering finish full of freshly cut grass and peaches.

FOOD
Cheese, Charcuterie, Hamburger, salty foods

Domaine du Dragon Rose

BLEND, DOMAINE DU DRAGON, PROVENCE 2018
Quintessential Provencial Rose´. The term ‘rose´ all day’ originated from this region.  Dragon boast chalky soil and cooler climate than many roses from this area while still offering exceptional value.

THE VINEYARDS
Vines are cared for sustainably, following organic practices. Soils are rich in gravel and limestone, unusual terroir for the region. Grapes are harvested by hand and fermented on indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled, stainless steel tanks.

VARIETALS
Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault, Rolle, and Mourvedre

Francois Crochet Rose

SANCERRE, FRANCOIS CROCHET, LOIRE 2018
Unique, vivacious, and surprisingly complex. A short maceration on the skins laces this wine’s charming but deeply layered nose while on the palate, mineral and acidic freshness give an electric experience. Perfect for brunch.

VARIETAL
100% Pinot Noir

FOOD
Salads, Quiche, Pork, Pasta

Thanks Rose´!
